What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) will teach you how to fully connect with the present moment. You will start by embracing all of your thoughts and feelings, even the unpleasant ones. You will tell yourself that it’s OK to feel sad. That it’s normal to feel anxious. Because you are more than the sum of your emotions. If you continue to fight your feelings or feel guilty about them, you will quickly feel overwhelmed. So you will instead learn to shift your focus towards how to manage those feelings and express them in healthier ways.

ACT will also bring you awareness regarding your conscious and unconscious values. By examining how they influence your behavior, you can equip yourself with the tools necessary for living a life that is consistent with your values.

“What we need to learn to do is to look at thought, rather than from thought.” (Steven Hayes)
